How about the Insurance Policy offered by MetLife? They invest your money in Mutual Funds and provide you the insurance coverage as well. I bought 2 policies for 15 years, one for my self and another for my wife. Our monthly premium is $485(285 for me and 200 for my wife). The risk cover is half million dollars and its an investment plan on which the average return is between 14-18% pa. I don't know yet how good is going to come out.

i tend agree with you, most of our forum topics start sensibly and then meander on...
The very reason why we join this forum so that we can, as whole, say something that may influence the law makers of this country to change the existing laws so that our problem with GC will be resolve.
Alot of times the comments in this forum are completely irrelevant and very insulting to the Americans. And here, we are asking them to please change your laws so we could live happily in their county. And if they say no, that's their right.
I am as frustrated as anyone here and I know people from other countries including Australia, Philippines, UK and China who have been waiting for years as well.
If we could please make our comments "not country-centric", I am sure more people will join this forum.
I know several people are not participating in this forum anymore because they are turned off by these country-centric comments.
It hurts, but that's the truth.

I found this interesting comment from a blog. It has been posted by an H.R. representative who has access to H1B and GC users' records. The points raised are indeed valid and they seem to have a 'case' against us. I do not by any means want to undermine our efforts but it does provide a perspective from the 'citizens' perspective.
The bill would also drastically increase the number of H-1B visas issued to foreign professional workers. As a Human Resources representative, I see first hand how the H-1B visa and employment based green card programs actually work together to drive U.S. white collar workers from their jobs and even from their careers. To begin with, there is virtually nothing in the law that prevents employers from hiring H-1Bers for open positions even if qualified Americans are available and willing to do the work. Americans are routinely laid off and replaced with lower paid H-1Bers also. In these cases, Americans have practically no legal recourse available under current law. H-1B is also a dual intent visa, so an employer may sponsor an H-1Ber for an EB green card for legal permanent resident status. When a company seeks to sponsor a foreign worker for an EB green card, they are required by law to demonstrate a good faith effort to recruit Americans first. This process is called labor certification. But employers routinely game the labor certification process for green card sponsorship to defraud even well qualified citizen job applicants in favor of low wage foreigners. They use fake job ads and/or bad faith interviews of American citizens to convince the federal government that they tried to find American workers first. These practices are common in high tech and even in some non-tech industries, but HR people are told to keep quiet about it or lose their jobs.
I would be in favor of a program that issues a small number of self-sponsoring green cards for truly innovative foreign nationals on a competitive basis. But very few of the H-1Bers or green card applicants that I have seen in 10+ years even come close to being truly innovative. Most are just practitioners with skills that are actually quite common among the domestic workforce. The only thing special about these foreigners is that they will work for substantially less than Americans in order to have a chance to become legal permanent residents. Thus they are used by management to sweeten corporate balance sheets.
The prevailing wage regulations are supposed to insure that foreign nationals are paid the same as their American counterparts in the same job functions, but these regulations are so riddled with loopholes that they are a bad joke.

My point is if we check our credentials, how many of us are 'true' innovators? I know I am not, I am an expert in what I do and am an asset to my company but I haven't filed any patents or publications which would be the true requirement for this country. My skills are indeed readily available in domestic workers as well. Could that be the reason for the backlog in EB-3 and none in EB-1? So do we need to do a reality check here? Just wondering if this could be the reason why we're getting a raw deal. Could it be that 'highly skilled' is not enough but 'genius' and 'highly skilled' is what's required here? Just a thought.

True. But that is true for every other bill. Just the fact that a bill is introduced means nothing. More details about CIR were discussed in our last conference call. We will have another conference call next month and you can join to hear CIR developments.

Infact anyone sending emails from a junk email ID without revealing their name, phone number and home address in the email is wasting their energy and hurting themselves and others in this community. Lawmakers want to hear from their constituents and you need to be a real person. An office should be able to contact you and know you have a legitimate concern in their constituency. You should urge others not to undertake such misguided attempts of spamming lawmaker offices and follow a proper process instead. a question: after 140 approval, does the service center notify you of the approval and send you a copy, or do you only hear next from the NVC ? I'm waiting on my 140/CP filing for the last two weeks and getting a little anxious. Also when can one call up the NVC to confirm that they've received the file ? thanks a lot.

Agree 100%. Atleast when Bush was in office there were bills introduced that encouraged skilled immigration Eg: Those who have been around for a while would remember the Cornyn-Kyl bill from 2005.
Everybody likes to talk about the Clinton era, but don't forget that Republicans had majority then. So we may see good things happen after the November 2010 elections if dems lose majority in both house and senate. And it will be good for Mr.Bamster to govern from the center going forward than to hang out with the far-left, may even fetch him another 4 years.

That time the deomcratic party wanted amnesty but "their" version of the bill never got a chance to be heard by the repuiblican leadership who had control over teh agenda. Now with Pelosi et al in change they do not allow any piecemeal bill to be tabled unless its part of the CIR

I would sympathize with you if you can do the following:
1) Show me that no more than 90% of the population experience depression tendencies at some point in their life.
among EB applicants I believe it would be 99%. So are you alone? I guess not:D:D
Things you could do: Try watching talks with the Dalai Lama (available on youtube). Read books on Gandhi. Increase frequency of quiteness / meditation. Watch atleast one comedy show per day. Visit/remember the sick/disabled/poor or other less fortunate people than you.
Things you could avoid: Heavy drinking. Watching news, movies/shows which are high tension. Most important is not to fight the emotions/thoughts that you consider are destructive. Allow them to come and go. Just watch them come and go........
What you consider as "Good luck" can happen to you in the fraction of a seccond, however, it will never happen if you keep on defining yourself as unlucky. So focus on the good things you have now and refrain from comparing to "what you should be having or are worthy of having". :D:D:D:D

I follow similar techniques to stay optimistic for most part of time. but every once in a while, there comes a time when I think why do some ppl get so lucky in everything they do.... they succeed in everything they do. while there are unlucky ppl like the poor/disabled etc who are destined to live unfortunate life deprived of so many things that other ppl enjoy regularly. is this what they call 'Law of Karma' ? did I do anything bad/evil in my past births - did I destroy anyone's career or life ? I follow similar techniques to stay optimistic for most part of time. but every once in a while, there comes a time when I think why do some ppl get so lucky in everything they do.... they succeed in everything they do. while there are unlucky ppl like the poor/disabled etc who are destined to live unfortunate life deprived of so many things that other ppl enjoy regularly. is this what they call 'Law of Karma' ? did I do anything bad/evil in my past births - did I destroy anyone's career or life ? I am positive I did not do anything bad/evil in this life .... atleast as of now :D

I am back again. This forum is outstanding when it comes to reliable information....
I work for a reputed US Consulting firm. They under-pay you and make you over work. They market fake resumes in a polished way. YES... IT is TRUE. Don't just blame the desi consultants.
I am on a EAD. I wanted to switch to hourly basis and wanted to see if there are any direct vendors who would be ready to pay better rates. Desi Consulting Co. is out of question. From my experience, Robert Half is bad too. Is there a better way to market yourself..to the employer?
Any help will be appreciated. !!
It would make more sense to compare and brainstorm if you can post the skillset you have in mind and the rate you wish for?
I agree that being on EAD or having a GC puts a person in a better situation compared to H1B but the bottom line is the skillset in context, demand for that skillset and expertise that one has in that skillset.

If they get continus apps from Eb1 in each quater how can they set up cutoff date ? ( I mean their demand with in range of supply ) .. isn't that illegal ?
Most recently, the cutoff dates for EB3-India was set on Jan 05 bulletin and for EB2-India on October 05. Not sure about the other categories, but it seems to me that they either do it at the start of a quarter or at the beginning of a fiscal year. Based on their comments, it does seem like demand is starting to exceed supply for those EB1 categories.
I feel like EB1 India and China will have cutoff dates beginning October 09.

Sorry - Not everybody is(or wants to be like) Narayan Moorthy.
I bet Narayan Moorthy doesnt have time(if not willingness) to clean his toilet NOW. Maybe we wud have when he was younger(before Infosys) which is a different stroy altogether.

If you had a approved 140, you'd get 3-year extensions. If it is pending, you could still get 1 year extension.
While I'm sure about this rule, you should check with the attorney.
I think its If pending...and labor approved 365 days before start date. I still need to check with my attorney. Also even if 140 is approved and dates are current i would not be able to extend.
