Second of all you chose to come here with the constraints that were imposed on you, did you have the balls to question the immigration officer as to why your wife could not work? I received my EAD last month. But no AP yet. However, i received an email from my lawyer today that.....my AP got rejected. The rejection letter is saying that I485 got approved that's why the I131 is rejected.....therefore, my lawyer is waiting for the I485 approval.....but my lawyer told me that I can expect my card soon.
I don't know how to react. The online doesn't have any update about the I485 status yet. They received my application on July 2, 2007.

I hope the admins keep this thread open and not kill it. I am not sure what the intentions of the OP ( some of you claimed that he wants to create a rift ), but this is definitely a valid concern for all the EB3(I) guys. This is a natural reaction to the frustrations of EB3(I) guys just like the mass upheaval during the July 2007 VB fiasco. Since it was across the board, there were no differences. Now since this involves only EB3(I), there is not much support from IV or others. But in my opinion, this is as much unfair as the Julay VB fiasco.
Some of the EB2(I) guys are worried that their GC dreams would get delayed if there is any Admin fix for EB3(I). For all those individuals in EB2(I) who want to oppose any kind of admin fix for EB3(I), I just want you to think about it. Is it really fair? There are individuals in EB3(I) waiting since 2001 - a total of 8+ years. Don't get me wrong - but some of the EB2(I) guys who have applied as late as 2006 and 2007 are expecting/hoping to get their GC this year if there is a spillover. And I think these are the individuals ( not all of the EB2 guys though ) who are opposing any kind of admin fix ( please dont yell at me or curse me etc...if you are not one among those mentioned, then please dont worry..this is not about you::) Ofcourse i would like each one of us to get GC as soon as possible) to EB3(I).
And I dont see why there will be a rift between EB2 and EB3 if each of us follows net etiquette in positng responses. Let's do some constuctive brainstoming - without getting into perosnal attacks or getting too emotional. Let's do what is right and not what each one of us thinks is right. Then I guess there wont be any rifts. The only thing I am asking is to get EB3(I) to advnace a little bit. I am not asking for it be on par with EB2(I). Why do we even have to ask about Jul 2nd acceptance. I feel if you ask them they deliberately try to misguide you. Isnt the day Jul 2 a part of July month?? Since the previous July bulletin has be reinstated, in fact people who filed on Jul 2 should be at the top of the list in terms of getting receipt notices etc...

You need to understand why your company is paying only 85K. Your base compensation is 85K, then you have another 10% on top of that as bonus. Also your Health/Dental/vision Insurance will be close to 15K payed by the employer. Also they pay Social Security at 8% base pay + Your H1B and other legal Expense for you and family. This will put your total rewards/compensation well above 100K.
I am not trying to say that your present company is perfect, but these are the common expenses for a company , Thats the reason even if you get hired by the direct client your salary will not increase very much. Companies pay 180$ to the consulting companies for the following reason
1) You are not their employee, so $180 per hour is all they pay ( No benefits, No H1b Legal hassles etc)
2) They Hire consultants for a particular project for a set period of time. After the project is over, they can have the consultant "released" from the project.
3) They dont want to hire independent contractors, cos, if the guy leaves in between the project, its the responsibility of the consulting company to replace your position with another qualified person.In your case, they need to find another candidate with your technical expertise, which is not very easy.Very few Companies wants to take that risk.
You need to look at the total compensation rather than your base pay

When the EAD and AP dates processing dates are backlogged, there isn't much advantage to early filing.
WithoutGCAmigo, no panic. there are processing dates which you should be worried about after you file EAD / AP etc.
To file it goes per visa bulletin. Hope you are upto date with that.

Does anyone know whether hard copy of Labor approval is required for filing Form 1-140. My Labor status shows certified, but my lawyer is conveying that they have not received my hard copy of approval to process Form I-140 and 485. Can some one tell me if we can take a print out of Labor approval from online status and use it for filing 140.

I just dont get it. A.R Rehman has been doing amazing work for ages now and it needed a British movie to take him to the world stage. Really, his work in Dil Se...was way better than what he did in Slumdog.
Bollywood sucks and how!!! They need to figure out how they can take their cinema to the world audience. They've been failing miserably in promoting their movies in the west. Americans welcome change and encourage talent always and our bollywood producers/directors need to tap that.
Well, if Hollywood had any needs of his kind of music, they wont stop. they will go and hire people from anywhere in the world if the film required it.
plus, please do not forget that the US makes music that is appreciated the world over. so, there is no shortage of talent here or in europe which is easily accessible to producers here.
and why does AR rahman need to be appreciated by the hollywood guys for us to feel better. We feel better cos he was recognized, time does not matter.
This film had an indian backdrop and the director felt comfortable to go with the local talent, one of the best in the world and still local. win-win
also, the class of music that south asia produces is completely different from the taste of music that the europeans had.
Globalization is changing that. and yesterday night was a proof of that.

I agree with most of the posts here ..there have been lot of ideas but everyone needs to be more serious ...IV core has to come up with a new campaign. ultimately the question is do we wait for something to happen or do we try for make things happen ..

it does not matter if you are a homeowner or not ..just participate (USCIS is not going to double check) ..there will be awareness that USCIS is broken just like Brown's FEMA (the person who was in charge during katrina fiasco)...and maybe USCIS will come out with facts. ofcourse some backlash is to be expected since we waited for too long and now we are in recession !! (also Obama is not going to do anything on his own so soon as he has major major problems to solve first)
ofcourse Core has to endorse such a campaign ..if someone has better idea ..please share ..don't be an idiot and offer only criticism to other people's idea unless u have something better !!
at the very least ..let us think and maybe everyone should come up with ideas ..and in the end let us have a poll and choose one campaign idea and go with it ..needless to say at the same time ..every member should try to spread word about the campaign and get atleast 5 new IV members (just like Amway networking)

I agree with your idea. But time might not be ripe. I'm not sure how we can get attention for legal immigration when the economy is so bad. This is like a downtime. We can use this time to strengthen IV as an organization. We need to prepare for war (activism) when there is peace (downtime). I agree with Pappu, we need to spread the word of IV as much as possible. I've to go beyond my friend's circle as most of them have a GC in hand! :D

it does not matter if you are a homeowner or not ..just participate (USCIS is not going to double check) ..there will be awareness that USCIS is broken just like Brown's FEMA (the person who was in charge during katrina fiasco)...and maybe USCIS will come out with facts. ofcourse some backlash is to be expected since we waited for too long and now we are in recession !! (also Obama is not going to do anything on his own so soon as he has major major problems to solve first)
ofcourse Core has to endorse such a campaign ..if someone has better idea ..please share ..don't be an idiot and offer only criticism to other people's idea unless u have something better !!
at the very least ..let us think and maybe everyone should come up with ideas ..and in the end let us have a poll and choose one campaign idea and go with it ..needless to say at the same time ..every member should try to spread word about the campaign and get atleast 5 new IV members (just like Amway networking)

I agree with your idea. But time might not be ripe. I'm not sure how we can get attention for legal immigration when the economy is so bad. This is like a downtime. We can use this time to strengthen IV as an organization. We need to prepare for war (activism) when there is peace (downtime). I agree with Pappu, we need to spread the word of IV as much as possible. I've to go beyond my friend's circle as most of them have a GC in hand! :D

Bad for consulting companies (no H1B; may lose job)
Bad for physicians (no H1B for medical residents; no provisions for NIW...terrible)

This bill is a massive attack on us; we should put all our efforts to oppose and kill the bill. There is little chance that we can get amendments to reverse the potential damage that this bill can do... that is disaster for us.

Is this applicable to people who have already invoked AC21 (PD Sep 2002, I485 Rcpt Date May 2003) and have no backup H1B?
